I have a random Nvidia GeForce FX5500 graphics card lying around and i don't have a use for it so i was wondering if you have an AGP slot that could put it to good use.

Even if I didn't I could just swap out the old one right?

I don't think that would destroy my comp...

I can't remember. Do you need to install software for new cards and stuff?

(oh, and I hereby move this to the Computer area tongue )

type dxdiag in the run program of windows, there you click on display tab and it will tell if you have a graphics card. If it is better than the one i am willing to give you, don't bother swaping it (Nvidia GeForce FX 5500). If you don't have a card, all you have to do is put in this card in the AGP slot and install a driver. If you have a card in there that is not as good as this one, all you have to do is uninstall the driver through the Device Manager, remove the card, put the new one in and install the driver. It would not destroy your computer unless you have an HP. HP has all integrated hardware feeding off one another like little rats, don't even try to install any hardware in an HP. In order to find out if you have an AGP slot, you will have to take off one of your PC's panels and check. Usually there is only one AGP versus around 4 PCI slots. It should tell on the motherboard if it is AGP or PCI.

In laymen terms, AGP allows for a graphics card to have better performance. It used to be that graphics cards got most of its "juice" from the motherboard (CPU), but now graphic cards have a CPU of their own and use the AGP slot for a faster connection that what a PCI slot has to offer. Smile

Edit: Nowadays companies are pushing for many different CPUs, to ease the stress off of the main CPU, allowing for much more meticulous and higher scale processes. For instance, there is a CPU called PhysX (check out the youtube vids for example) that allows for many more computations than the main CPU can handle due to the other processes it is responsible for. A network CPU is also being pushed to allow for higher speeds of internet access and such. Smile
